Join us to visit the Magical Destination of Lake Titicaca.

The floating Urus islands are located in the highest navigable lake in the world: Lake Titicaca, This is known as the cradle of Inca Civilization, where former inka Manco Capac and wife landed from heaven.

Here you can find the floating Islands built of "totora" reed, an aquatic plant that grows on the surface shore of Lake Titicaca. The "totora" is woven and laid on another layer of it to build the flat surface of each floating island.

These islands are inhabited by the Uros, one of the oldest cultures of the continent which dates back to pre-Inca times.

Come with us to know their systems of subsistence; traditions, stories of the Uros communities; how they fish and hunt with rudimentary tools.

The Urus inhabitants are dedicated to the manufacture of wool tapestry fabrics and the dissection of animals. Also they develop tourist activities offering souvenirs to improve the life condition.

Llachón, Urus & Taquile Islands

ITINERARY

Day 1: Uros Island and Peninsula of Llachón
At 8:00 am, we pick you up from your Puno hotel, to take you to Lake Titicaca where we take a boat to the Uros Islands. Here we learn about the Uros inhabitants and their customs. They are ancient fishermen and hunters who use the “totora” that grows in water to build floating reed islands to live on the lake. The thick roots of the plants support the island. Houses are extremely humid due to the water. At present, the inhabitants still speak Quechuan and Aymaran.
We then continue our journey by boat to Llachón's Peninsula.

In Llachón, we appreciate the clothing of the forefathers of the Incas that still remain and we have lunch prepared by the residents. After lunch, we explore the peninsula for 40 minutes by boat, appreciating the natural beauty of the place. At night, we enjoy dinner and a folk show organised by the residents.
The families do not have the same facilities as a house in the city. This program offers travellers the opportunity to learn about the inhabitants’ knowledge and experiences, and the intense love for their land, myths and beliefs. They have shared hygienic facilities, as hot water.

Day 2: Taquile Island
Have breakfast then transfer to the beautiful and picturesque Island of Taquile (1 hour approx.). At Taquile Island we take a long walk (50 mins) up from the port of Chuño to the Main Plaza, located in the top of the island.
Residents continue living according to their ancient traditions and laws. They have developed an efficient, fascinating and unique social system, and magnificent textile techniques. After lunch we leave by the other side of the island. We go down 533 steps of stone to the dock where the boat is waiting. Then we go back to your hotel in Puno.
