Summary

Join us on an adventurous trek into Colca Canyon, the deepest Canyon in the world, at over 13,000m deep. Andrew Pietiowsky(?), polish navigator, said: colca canyon is more deep than Cotahuasi[S2] (other canyon) [S3] On the trek down into the canyon we will have magnificent views of the pre-Incan terraces and the Colca River. At the bottom of the canyon, we see a geyser and stay overnight at Llahuar where we can swim in the hot springs, enjoy the amazing landscape and try trout fishing. On day 3 we have an exciting trek back up the Canyon starting at 3am so we can experience the sensation of trekking under the stars and see the sun rising through the mountains. We have breakfast in the charming village of Cabanacode and then travel to the Condor´s Cross viewpoint to see the magnificent Condors soaring over the Canyon. On the trip back to Arequipa we stop at Chivay for a relaxing swim in the thermal baths and lunch.

Colca Canyon Trek to Llawar Hot Spring

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arequipa - Cabanaconde – Llahuar
We pick you up from your hotel at 5:30 am and drive to the town of Cabanaconde, about 6 hours away. We arrive at Cabanaconde approximately 12:00 midday and have lunch.

1:00pm. Start the trekking from Cabanaconde (3,300masl.) through the bullfight field and visit the Achachiwa lookout, where Colca Canyon can be observed and also the trail we take to Llahuar Lodge. We trek down into the canyon with magnificent views of the villages, terraces, and River Colca below. After we reach the river at the bottom, we cross some suspension bridges and then we have the wonderful experience of appreciating the small Geyser that’s located opposite the river.

5:00pm. Arrive at Llahuar Lodge (2,020m), enjoy the hot springs (30º C), and admire the geological landscapes. We will also have opportunity to try trout fishing from the side of the Colca river

At night we will have dinner and sleep in the bungalows made of reed.

Day 2: Llahuar – Oasis Sangalle
7:30 am. Enjoy breakfast then start the trek. We trek for 4 hours and we see amazing landscapes of the mountains and different types of wild plants. We trek up through the little village of Paclla which has a mysterious characteristic because of its abandoned or witches houses. We also see the most impressive view of the Canyon from the Apacheta lookout. We arrive at Oasis Sangalle about 12:00 midday which has bungalows that are typical of the place.

We have lunch in the in the shade near the beautiful pool and gardens. After we are accommodated in our bungalows, we have the chance to bathe in the refreshing volcanic water swimming pools (16º C) and take a walk in the area and experience the tropical vegetation.

At night, after dinner, we relax around the campfire and sleep overnight.

Day 3: Oasis Sangalle - Cabanaconde - Condor´s Cross - Arequipa
3.00 am. We depart from the Oasis of Sangalle, taking the trail to Cabanaconde. Enjoy the wonderful sensation of walking under the stars and by the moonlight and the magical experience of being on the trail in the canyon as the sun rises between the mountains. The trek takes approximately 3.5hours.

6:30am. We arrive in Cabanaconde and have an enjoyable breakfast.
We travel to the Condor´s Cross viewpoint to see the spectacle of these mystic birds, flying above us, as well we see the deep section of the canyon and then continue on to Chivay.
We have lunch in Chivay. We also have an optional visit to the hot springs of La Calera where you can enjoy a relaxing swim to soothe your muscles after your morning trek. Then we go back to Arequipa.
Transfer to the hotel and the end of our service.
